NUSTEC also serves as the designated agency conducting inspections for the government as specified by Reactor Regulation Law. They are carried out by qualified inspectors authorized by the Ministers of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MLIT) and Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
Welding Inspections in Reactor and Fuel Cycle Installations
Welding in reactor and fuel cycle installations is subject to inspection in each fabrication and construction stage. Those installations cannot be used until such inspections take place. NUSTEC is authorized to check the integrity of welding in research reactor installations and advanced power reactor installations in the R&D stage, as well as fuel cycle facilities. The inspections are made by confirming materials and welding records, as well as carrying out nondestructive and pressure testing.

Confirmation of Transport of Nuclear Fuel Materials
When greater quantities of fuel materials than specified are transported, or when items contaminated by nuclear fuel materials are transported, confirmation is required to ensure the packages and means of transport comply with technical standards. Consignors and carriers who are going to transport fuel materials by land by the approved type of packaging and loading methods, can request NUSTEC the confirmation.
